Scene 1:

Adit declares, “She is my girlfriend, and I love her. That’s why I got a gift for her. Understand?” Lakshmi is taken aback. “What are you saying?” she asks. “Are you implying that those flowers were also for Somiya? I saw you buying them.” Adit confirms, “Yes, they were for her. Your suspicion was correct. I’ve been lying enough. I won’t deceive anymore. I’ve carried this burden for too long.”

Kusum retreats to her room and locks herself in. “My Adit can’t possibly do that,” she insists. Papa and Mangal plead with her to open the door. Mangal implores, “I need to talk to you.”

Lakshmi interjects, “You can’t do this to my sister. This can’t be real. She trusts and loves you so much. How will she cope? This betrayal is beyond her imagination. You’re married to her, with kids and a family.” Adit remains resolute, “This is the truth. Go and tell everyone. I don’t care.” Somiya enters, witnessing Lakshmi’s distress. Adit urges Lakshmi to leave, insisting, “Go and tell everyone. Leave.”

Papa and Mangal continue urging Kusum to open the door. Papa observes, “I’ve never seen her so furious.” Mangal pleads, “Please, Amma, listen to me. Open the door.” Lakshmi wanders the streets, overwhelmed. As she recollects recent events, connecting the dots, she weeps. “This will devastate Mangal, but I can’t keep her in the dark. I can’t ruin her life,” she resolves. Papa expresses concern for Kusum, while Mangal offers him water. Papa laments, “She’s heartbroken.” Mangal implores Kusum once more, “Please, open the door. Please forgive me.”

Somiya questions Adit’s outburst, “Why did you get so angry? You shouldn’t have told Lakshmi everything. We’ve kept it hidden for so long.” Adit retorts, “You should be happy. You kept insisting you were a secret, so I told her.” Somiya counters, “Why are you angry at me? You asked me not to tell anyone. I was upset about what happened at Holi. But now Lakshmi will tell everyone. I’m worried about you. How will you handle this?” Adit confesses, “She infuriated me. She kept questioning me. I lost my temper and told her.” Somiya frets, “How will you manage now?”

Scene 2:

Papa beseeches Kusum to open the door, acknowledging her justified anger. Lakshmi arrives, inquiring about the commotion. Mangal tries to force the door open. They find Kusum lying on the bed. Mangal cries out, “Amma, open your eyes!” They lift her up. Papa consoles her, “You frightened us.” Mangal embraces her, pleading, “Why did you do this? Papa and I were terrified.” Kusum lashes out, “You’re saying all this now. But you didn’t consider me your mother when you found out about the chain. Why didn’t you tell me? Why should I trust you?” Lakshmi is bewildered. Kusum accuses Mangal, “I’ve always stood by you and protected you. And you did this to me.”

Lakshmi presses for details. Kusum directs her inquiry to Mangal, “Ask your sister. I never stopped Mangal from doing anything. But today, she bought an expensive gold chain with Adit and didn’t even inform me.” Lakshmi recalls her previous conversation with Adit. She queries, “Is she referring to the chain Jeju brought?” Kusum scoffs, “Your sister knows that Adit got you such an expensive chain. I didn’t know. Today, you made me realize that a daughter-in-law is just that, not a daughter.” Mangal implores, “Don’t say that.” Lakshmi interjects, “Adit didn’t get that chain for Mangal. We saw it in his bag, but he never gave it to Didi.” Kusum demands answers, “Then where is it? And who did he give it to? Did Adit buy it for himself and keep it?” Lakshmi hesitates, “He…I don’t have an answer, but Adit should explain himself.” Kusum insists, “Stop playing games. Tell me the truth.”

Somiya frets, “What will you tell everyone, Adit? It’s so complicated. I’m worried about you.” Adit, fraught with concern, receives a call from Kusum, demanding his immediate return home. Somiya expresses her anxiety, “I’m really worried.”
